Sohle Null
A ninety-minute piece for six performers in the pithead baths, staged entirely between the chains.

The brief
A regional ensemble had a text about the last shift of a pit and no building that would take it. They needed a room that carried the subject without a set, and a producer who would say early what was and was not allowed.
What we did
The rule was simple: nothing touches the chains. All lighting came from a free-standing ground-support grid and eight floor positions, and the audience moved three times across the evening on a route agreed with the fire service. Sound was a distributed delay system, because the tiled walls will not permit a single point source.
How it went
Eleven sold-out evenings and a second run in 2026. The ensemble now writes for the room rather than adapting to it.
