1. Pit bank · Depth ±0 m

   Start at the quenching tower

   Guests gather under the quenching tower, where glowing coke was doused in a cloud of steam that could be seen across three districts. It is the loudest place on the site and now the quietest. Entry is staggered in ten-minute slots so the battery never holds more people than the route can move.

2. First level · Depth 145 m

   118 doors in a straight line

   The oven front runs 214 metres without a break. Lit from one end, the perspective collapses into a single glowing corridor — the effect the walk is built around. Each oven is treated as one cue, so the sequence can be programmed as a wave that overtakes the guests walking through it.

3. Second level · Depth 310 m

   Everything is fixed, nothing is hung

   The lighting positions are permanent and surveyed; a production adds content, not hardware. That keeps build time to two days and keeps crews off the battery structure, which is a listed monument under conservation supervision and not a rigging point.

4. Third level · Depth 470 m

   The hottest work on the plant

   Coking never stopped. Ovens ran day and night for years at a stretch, and the door crews worked in radiant heat that came through their clothes. Men lost their sense of smell here; many did not reach a long retirement. We light this building because it is extraordinary, and we say what it cost.

5. Shaft bottom · Depth 640 m

   What an evening costs

   A light walk evening starts at €6,900: route, permanent lighting rig, one programmer, stewards at the three junctions, and the shortened step-free alternative. Content design, catering points along the route and a second evening are quoted on top.
